In 1991 I received a Bachelor’s Degree from RISD in Apparel Design. While in the process of completing my degree, I participated in two internships under Tsunami, the first brand to create streetwear fleece garments composed exclusively of Polartec fleece (Malden Mills). I did extracurricular work building, customizing, and riding mountain bikes with industrial designers which contributed greatly to my design aesthetic, and inspired my mission to create the perfect fusion of functional garments and streetwear. While my fellow RISD apparel graduates had visions of runway shows at NYC Fashion Week, I felt compelled to follow my path hallmarked by performance fashion. For my senior capstone project, I created a collection titled “Ride The Runway” a series of women’s specific mountain biking apparel tailored with innovative technical features, and sponsored by Polartec.
